The birth of a baby is one of the most exciting experiences for a woman. But amidst all the excitement, most women also experience moments of anxiety, and especially so if they are new first-time mothers. As your baby arrives, all your energy and attention will be focused on caring for the baby and making him/her comfortable. Here are certain tips and advices for new mothers:

New mothers need to take special care of their health, along with attending to the needs of the new born. As you will be breast-feeding the baby, you will have to eat well. Eat plenty of vegetables, fresh fruits and drink enough water. Increase your calcium intake by drinking a lot of milk and increasing consumption of diary products.

Wash your hands before handling your newborn. Young babies have not built up a strong immune system yet, so they are susceptible to infection.

It is considered natural for babies to sleep with their mothers, especially in the early weeks. This will not do the baby any harm. In fact, there's some evidence that it helps the baby's heart rate and sleeping patterns.

Breast feed your baby. Mother’s milk is the best food for babies. It contains exactly the right amount of nutrients required, in the right proportions, to ensure that your baby gets the perfect balanced meal. Breast-milk is essential for a baby’s healthy growth.

It is important to thoroughly clean your baby after removing a soiled diaper. The best is with water. Soap should be used only if your baby had diarrhea which won’t clean with water.

Make a note of the vaccinations which are to be given to your child, and ensure they are given properly from time to time. Always be patient with your child, and love your child as much as you can. And always enjoy your motherhood.
